Porsche Bring Back Those Iconic Dashboards

8 September 2015

Air cooled Porsche 911 enthusiasts will be fully aware of the toll the natural environment takes on those old, original dash rolls from Porsche 911’s produced between 1969 to 1975. The constant UV rays over the years, plus sitting in an environment that is either super hot or icy cold makes the old dashboards brittle and prone to cracking. A little bit of fading is cool, we think. But cracks in the old materials don’t look so good.

Porsche clearly feel the same way and as these old parts have been so hard to get for a while now, they’ve gone away and re-invented the original dashboard. Using a sophisticated manufacturing process that combines high quality that meets today’s standards and a design that is true to the original down to the details. The dashboard consists of a modern substructure and the original surface structure. The fluted texture and tactile feel, gloss and degree of black are identical to the original. The new part can be ordered from any Porsche centre, and in Germany it costs 951.99 euros including VAT.

As an original part, the dashboard, which also contains the loudspeaker cover, can only be installed by the original assembly procedure – which involves removing the windscreen in the true 911 restoration tradition. The new part is made from materials that accurately replicate the original finish, but are far more resistant to temperature fluctuations and the affects of UV radiation. We think it’s pretty cool to be able to walk into your local Porsche dealer with your 1970 data card and ask for this part.
