The guys over at Petrolicious are making some really superb videos right now. Based in SoCal, with a mystery contributor from Italy, they’re creating great short movies about people with a love for cars. This latest one, about Jack Olsen, his 911 and his 12 Gauge Garage is one of my favorites so far.
Jack’s a fiction writer by trade, but he set out to create not just a Porsche 911 that he could use for all purposes, but also one of the coolest garages to keep it in. It’s not a vast, air conditioned, aircraft hanger sized building, such as Jay Lenos or Nick Mason, it’s just a plain, suburban two car garage.
Jack Olsen’s two car garage and his Porsche 911
Jack’s ingenious use of space and the way that he used top quality cabinets by buying second hand industrial units (hence the ’12 Gauge’ name after the steel they’re made from). But for me the most remarkable thing is that he built the whole thing on a budget of just $3500 and before he started out, he hadn’t welded, laid tiles, mixed concrete or anything at all.
So for all those of us that keep on putting it off and cringe at the boxes of dead car magazines, half rebuilt mountain bikes and all the other stuff in our garages, Jack is an inspiration. His garage has proved so popular, it’s now got a website of it’s own.
Watch the Petrolicious video about Jack’s Porsche 911 below and take a look at his garage website here. Then break out the sweeping brush, order a skip and get started.
